On November 4, 1794 the Russian forces led under General Aleksandr Suvorov assaulted Praga, the easternmost suburb of Warsaw and after four hours of heavy hand to hand fighting broke through defences of Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Praga was subsequently looted and burnt by Russian soldiers who also killed approximately 20 000 of its inhabitants including women and infants, even animals were not spared. Next day Warsaw surrendered. The Battle of Praga (known as Massacre of Praga) was the last battle of army of Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania). In the Battle of Praga Lithuanian soldiers wore their uniforms for the last time.
