On the year 1323 January 25th Gediminas, by the grace of God the king of Lithuania and Russia, ruler and duke of Ziemgala, in an open letter, in his words, "to all the worshipers of Christ, men and women, spread throughout the world, especially giving priority to the special cities of Lübeck, Stralsund, Bremen, Magdeburg, Cologne and others to even Rome", mentioned the name of Vilnius for the first time.
Gediminas’ letters to the laity had very specific economic goals: "...we open [our] land, estates and kingdom (terram, dominum et regnum) to every person of good will: soldiers (knights), armorers, merchants, farmers, blacksmiths, wheelwrights, cobblers, furriers, millers, innkeepers, any craftsmen. We want to divide the land among all these listed – each according to his rank. Those who would like to come as farmers can work our land for ten years free of charge. Merchants enter and exit without tax or duty and freely, after all barriers are gone. I will provide the soldiers and the men-at-arms, if they wish to stay, with things and property as is proper.
Wanting the message to be as widely spread as possible to the inhabitants of other cities, Gediminas asked "all the city councilors that this letter be rewritten, and that it is written down and pinned to the door of the church, and the letter itself, out of love for us, be forwarded to the neighboring city without any delay, so that God’s glory would introduce it to everyone." It is obvious that the king of Lithuania was well aware that the door of the church was an effective place for advertising and information transmission (the most famous example is the publication of Martin Luther's theses). Gediminas used the services of monks of orders preaching in the cities. THANK YOU to King Gediminas for Vilnius!

Heinrich von Plauen (the Elder) was the 27th Grand Master of the Teutonic Knights, serving from November 1410 to October 1413. He was a stern proponent of prolonging the war with Poland. Because all male members of his family were baptized as Heinrich, he is sometimes known as Heinrich von Plauen the Elder to differentiate from his relative.
Heinrich von Plauen did not take part in the Battle of Grunwald on July 15, 1410. Upon receiving the news of the Order's defeat, he took the initiative and assembled an army of 3,000 men to defend Marienburg, capital of the Order. He correctly suspected that it was where the victorious Polish and Lithuanian armies were headed. He also sent letters, acting as the Grand Master, to Germany asking for additional troops and money. Heinrich von Plauen arrived at Marienburg on time and energetically organized the defense. The Siege of Marienburg started on July 18 and remained until September 19, 1410. The King of Poland Jogaila didn't expect strong resistance and wasn't prepared for a long-term siege. The siege, holding Jogaila's army in place, helped to organize defensive forces in other parts of Prussia and gave time for relief to arrive from the Livonian Order and Germany. Jogaila had to retreat. Heinrich von Plauen ordered his forces to pursue the retreating Polish army and recaptured all fortresses (except those on the Polish–Prussian border) by the end of October.
In November 1410 for his services in the defense of Marienburg and Prussia, Heinrich von Plauen was chosen as the 27th Grand Master of the Teutonic Order, overtaking other officials of the Order with higher positions, like Werner von Tettingen, the Order's Minister of Diplomacy and the Komtur of Elbing (Elbląg), who fought in the Battle of Grunwald. Von Plauen inherited a difficult task of rebuilding Order's fortresses, restoring the economy, recruiting new knights, and defending the Order's reputation in Europe.

Among the booty retrieved from the field at Grunwald were fifty-six flags of the Teutonic Order or cities affiliated with the Teutonic Order. The flags were brought to Kraków and hung in the cathedral to commemorate the victory. Those, or reproductions of them, hang today in Wawel Castle. It survives as a rich source for turn-of-the-15th-century Central Europe heraldic style.
TYPOART reviews the main heraldry of the Battle of Grunwald. The collection is in progress, from time to time is inriched with new items. Changes are possible, as drawings and details are adjusted with historical sources.

Marc Birkigt, Swiss engineer, was nominated for the Car Engineer of the Century prize for the luxurious Hispano-Suiza H6 car in the 1920s. The Hispano-Suiza H6C Tulipwood Torpedo 1924 is one of the most famous exceptions. Built to the order of one of Hispano Suiza's biggest clients, André Dubonnet, the unique coachwork was built by Nieuport, a French aviation company. The exceptional machine was driven to a sixth at the Targa Florio by Dubonnet. He also competed in the Coppa Florio where he finished fifth overall and first in class. Upon completion of these events, the car was retired from racing and modified for regular road use. Initially the car was equipped with very elegant 'flowing blade' fenders. These were later replaced with more substantial wings, similar in shape to the torpedo body. All of the copper trim is a later addition as well. It is in this condition that the car has survived and can be admired at the Blackhawk Museum in Danville, California.
Roughly 2,350 H6, H6B and H6C cars were produced in total.

The Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth (the official name of the state was The Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania) was established by the Union of Lublin in July 1569, but the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania had been in a de facto personal union since 1386 with the marriage of the Polish queen Hedwig and Lithuania's Grand Duke Jogaila, who was crowned King jure uxoris Władysław II Jagiełło of Poland.
