Marc Birkigt, Swiss engineer, was nominated for the Car Engineer of the Century prize for the luxurious Hispano-Suiza H6 car in the 1920s. The Hispano-Suiza H6C Tulipwood Torpedo 1924 is one of the most famous exceptions. Built to the order of one of Hispano Suiza's biggest clients, André Dubonnet, the unique coachwork was built by Nieuport, a French aviation company. The exceptional machine was driven to a sixth at the Targa Florio by Dubonnet. He also competed in the Coppa Florio where he finished fifth overall and first in class. Upon completion of these events, the car was retired from racing and modified for regular road use. Initially the car was equipped with very elegant 'flowing blade' fenders. These were later replaced with more substantial wings, similar in shape to the torpedo body. All of the copper trim is a later addition as well. It is in this condition that the car has survived and can be admired at the Blackhawk Museum in Danville, California.
Roughly 2,350 H6, H6B and H6C cars were produced in total.

This is TYPOART's tribute to Ettore Arco Isidoro Bugatti, Italian-born French automobile designer and manufacturer, elder son of Carlo Bugatti. Ettore Bugatti was born into an artistic family – his father, brother, aunt, grandfather were great artists. To a Bugatti owner who complained that his car was difficult to start on cold mornings, Ettore Bugatti is said to have retorted, "Sir! If you can afford a Type 35, you can surely afford a heated garage!” :)
